O MAC USP, museu público e universitário, busca incentivar a produção artística contemporânea e democratizar o acesso a ela por meio de diversas ações, entre as quais a realização de um edital de exposições temporárias, voltado para artistas que nunca tiveram exposições individuais institucionais, tampouco em galerias.
Olhos da Pele é uma proposta selecionada na segunda edição do edital, dentre os 166 projetos inscritos. Elaborada a partir da pesquisa de um coletivo de artistas de Belo Horizonte, Salvador e São Paulo, ela apresenta um conjunto de obras em várias mídias e linguagens cujo aspecto comum é a investigação das relações humanas a partir do corpo, da matéria e da cotidianidade. O grupo de artistas reuniu-se autonomamente para a apresentação da proposta. Com ela, o grupo elabora também um exercício de auto-curadoria, estabelecendo os diálogos entre as obras, construindo ressonâncias, reiterações, mas também ressaltando as particularidades de cada trabalho, suas singularidades – a pele de cada um, a perspectiva irredutível de um lugar de apreensão do mundo.
Ao acolher tal exercício e seus resultados, o MAC USP reconhece a importância das práticas colaborativas e horizontais na arte contemporânea, reforçando o entendimento do museu como um espaço de acolhida e de escuta atenta à produção artística experimental e emergente.

MAC USP, a public and university museum, aims to promote contemporary artistic production and democratize access to it through various actions, including the open call for temporary exhibitions aimed at artists who have not previously been individually exhibited in institutions or galleries.
Olhos da Pele is a proposal selected from 166 projects submitted in the second edition of the call. It is the result of the research of an artists’ collective from Belo Horizonte, Salvador and São Paulo and presents a series of works in different media and languages, whose common aspect is the investigation of human relationships through the body, matter, and everyday life. The group met autonomously to present the proposal. In doing so, the collective also develops an exercise in self-curatorship, establishing dialogues between the works, creating resonances and repetitions, but also highlighting the particularities of each work, its uniqueness - the skin of each, the irreducible perspective of one place of apprehension of the world.
By welcoming this exercise and its results, MAC USP acknowledges the importance of collaborative and horizontal practices in contemporary art and reinforces the understanding of the museum as a space that welcomes and listens attentively to experimental and emerging artistic production.

Corpo é ficção, a se fazer e refazer.

Como uma espécie de elogio ao profano e aos lapsos do cotidiano, Olhos da pele é um projeto expositivo que investiga as possibilidades poéticas de corpos a fazerem-se na tessitura do mundo, em deslocamento.
Mesclando mídias e técnicas, o coletivo de artistas produz objetos rugosos: imagens de traços fortes, esculturas cujas marcas do trabalho são visíveis, fotografias que transitam entre corpos e territórios diferentes. É um conjunto de objetos que está em um meio do caminho, até, talvez, por terem como fio condutor corpos e sexualidades - “objetos” tão pessoais que abdicar de toda e qualquer possibilidade de controla-los talvez seja indesejável. É o que sustenta Tania Rivera quando diz “os objetos são como órgãos externos cuja experiência demonstra que o corpo é ‘mais que o corpo’. O corpo constitui-se vivencialmente fora/dentro dele mesmo como a fita de Moebius”. O sujeito configura-se não como ente fechado, mas enquanto fratura aberta a uma porosidade que é libidinosa. Nesta mostra, somos propostos a entender como corpos e sexualidades figuram como agentes nessa crise. Demonstra-se, assim, como as experiências sensoriais, para além da compreensão racional de nós mesmos, informam a visão que temos de nossa relação com a parte carnal que nos habita.
Daí a fita geométrica: um objeto singular contraditoriamente apresenta duas faces que são a mesma, tal qual as obras desta exposição, que mostram uma segunda face que paradoxalmente sempre esteve e nunca estará lá: o corpo e as experiências que temos através dele são expostos como algo que de tão subjetivo, torna-se universal. Aqui, apresenta-se o corpo fora do corpo, um ideal de imperfeito ou um ideal individual; ou em outras palavras, um olhar crítico sobre as relações menos racionais que possuímos: carnais, libidinosas, instintivas, desde o ato erótico ao ato de comer. Com essa mostra, tentamos aprender a ver com os olhos da pele.

“Body is fiction, to be made and remade”.

As a kind of paean to the profane and the lapses of everyday life, Olhos da pele is an exhibition project that explores the poetic possibilities of bodies formed in the texture of the world, in displacement.
The artist collective combines media and techniques to produce raw objects: images with strong lines, sculptures whose traces of work are visible, and photographs that transit between different bodies and territories. It is a series of objects that stand halfway, perhaps even because they have bodies and sexualities as their leitmotif - "objects" so personal that giving up all possibility of control over them is perhaps undesirable. Tania Rivera underscores this when she says, "Objects are like external organs whose experience shows that the body is 'more than the body.' The body experientially constitutes itself outside/inside, like the Moebius strip." The subject is not configured as a closed entity, but as an open fracture to a porosity that is libidinous. This exhibition proposes us to understand how bodies and sexualities act as agents in this crisis. It shows how sensory experiences beyond the rational understanding of ourselves shape the conception of our relationship to the carnal part that inhabits us.
Hence the geometric strip: a singular object contradictorily shows two faces that are the same, just like the works in this exhibition that show a second face that paradoxically has always been there and will never be: the body and the experiences we have through it are exposed as something so subjective that it becomes universal. Here the body outside the body is presented, an ideal of the imperfect or an individual ideal; or in other words, a critical look at the less rational relationships we have: carnal, libidinal, instinctual, from the erotic act to the act of eating. With this exhibition we try to learn to see through the eyes of the skin.
