The exhibition Contemporary Contaminations intends to review a current theme by displaying artworks created by a group of young Chilean artists of the 80s who are interested in research and experimentation. It also intends to create bonds among artists beyond our borders. The display joins different artistic practices developed by the invited artists according to their particular perception, and concerning the theme of contamination.
Contamination caused exclusively by humans and produced by the accelerated growth of cities has an effect on contemporary society and affects not only the environment but also people's health and quality of life. Currently, contamination stopped being a local problem to become an alarming global issue that requires our attention.
Artists nowadays, who are increasingly getting involved in political and social subjects, use the material and opportunities, which suppose a precise moment, to produce their works or to broaden the fields of experimentation and investigation in order to make the spectator sensitive to the problems that affect contemporary society.
The support for this exhibition was provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile and the cooperation of MAC USP .
